I have a sixteen year record as Member of Parliament for North Norfolk - working hard for local people.
Every year, between 5,000 and 10,000 local people contact me to raise issues that they care about. I always do the best I can to help. The most important part of being an MP is speaking up for you, your family and your neighbours.
I was hugely privileged to serve as a government minister until 2015. I fought for the best deal for the NHS and was able to push through important changes to the way we pay for care.
The Conservatives are set for a huge majority in Parliament and North Norfolk needs an experienced MP to speak up for local people in Westminster.
Health and Care
I was dismayed that the Conservatives have abandoned the cap on the cost of care. A cap I introduced as a minister. I will keep up my battle to ensure the way we pay for care in old age is as fair as possible.
I support Liberal Democrat plans to boost funding for local schools. Every child in North Norfolk deserves the best possible start in life.
As we leave the EU we must make sure we get the best deal for for jobs and the economy. We cannot afford to give the Conservatives a blank cheque.
I have been Member of Parliament for North Norfolk since 2001. My home is in Norfolk and my mum and dad lived for many years in Holt.
I served as a government minister until 2015 and as Care Minister I was able to introduce changes that made the way we pay for care in old age fairer. The Conservatives have abandoned key parts of these changes in their 2017 election manifesto.
I have fought to raise the profile of mental health care - including for dementia.
I have been campaigning for local people for the past 25 years. I was elected MP for North Norfolk in 2001 but I fought two elections before that, building support and earning the trust of local people.
As North Norfolk’s MP, I have:
● Supported local people in campaigning to protect Cottage Hospitals at Wells, Cromer, Kelling and North Walsham.
● Battled to make North Norfolk’s voice heard in the fight to get our coastline protected from flooding.
● Campaigned to improve mobile phone and broadband coverage.
● Backed moves to boost schools funding and to find ways of giving those children most in need the best possible start.
I went to school in Norfolk and to university in Leicester. I qualified as a lawyer and went to work for Norwich City Council before joining a local firm of solicitors.
I am a long-standing Norwich City season ticket holder, sharing the highs and lows with other fans at Carrow Road week-in, week-out.
My wife Mary and I have two grown-up sons.
