Local MP Renews Calls For National Football Insurance Scheme12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 23rd Jun 2003 Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk, is urging the Football Association's new Chief Executive, Mark Palios, to consider a national scheme of insurance for amateur footballers. Mr Lamb first took up the case with former Chief Executive, Adam Crozier, following contact with a constituent, Richard Butler, who lost his leg as a result of a football accident seven years ago. Recently, Richard and a friend have set up an insurance company and have helped to make sure that all 650 Norfolk FA-affiliated clubs have football insurance. Mr Lamb states: "The situation in Norfolk proves that this can be done on a local level. I am convinced that the FA should give its backing to a national equivalent, which would provide cheap insurance cover for all its amateur footballers and thus avoid the sort of hardships experienced by those who suffer injuries as a result of their passion for the sport."
