Lamb to Explore Euro Funding for Happisburgh7.48.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 19th Oct 2003 Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for North Norfolk, will tomorrow travel to Brussels to explore the possibility of securing European funding to protect the shoreline of Happisburgh. Malcolm Kerby, Chairman of the Coastal Concern Action Group, and Peter Frew, the Senior Officer at North Norfolk District Council responsible for coastal erosion, will join Mr Lamb in a meeting with Mrs Snoeren, who is responsible for the policy on coastal erosion in the EU. Mr Lamb said "We cannot be sure that anything will come of this meeting, but it is vital that we thoroughly explore every opportunity that may offer protection to Happisburgh." Notes: 1. Mrs Snoeren told Mr Lamb and Mr Kerby that in May 2002 'The European Parliament and Council adopted an EU recommendation that invites Member States to set up national strategies to implement integrated coastal zone management. One of the strategic elements to be considered is appropriate and ecological coastal protection measures, including protection of coastal settlements and their cultural heritage.' 2. The possibility of securing funding from the EU was originally raised with Norman Lamb by Trimingham Parish Council. Mr Lamb followed up the idea by writing to the President of the Commission, Romano Prodi. Related Link:Coastal Concern Action Group (CCAG).
