Lamb to visit Campion Project Day Centre - Due to Close this Month

4.09.02pm GMT Thu 25th Mar 2004

Norman Lamb will visit the day centre operated by the Campion Project in Holt on Friday to hear from constituents concerned about its impending closure and learn more about the funding situation which has led to this.

The centre offers support to people suffering from mental health problems, and is one of four in North Norfolk facing closure due to lack of funds.

Mr Lamb said: "A number of people who use the Campion Project's day centres have contacted me to say how much they value them, and how much they will miss the opportunities that they offer. The centres provide very valuable support and confidence to people in vulnerable circumstances.

"I am very concerned that the loss of these centres will mean that others in similar circumstances will not be able to benefit from the Campion Project's work. I am pleased to have been invited to this meeting in Holt, and hope to learn more about both the funding situation and the implications of the closure decision."

The meeting at will take place at Carola Sutton Court, Holt, on Friday.

Other Campion Project day centres in North Norfolk which are being closed operate in Cromer, North Walsham and Fakenham. They are funded jointly by the North Norfolk NHS Primary Care Trust and Social Services, but the funding is coming to an end.
