Lamb to meet Housing & Planning Minister to discuss RAF West Raynham

2.36.37pm GMT Thu 8th Dec 2005

Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk, will meet with Housing and Planning Minister Yvette Cooper next week to discuss concerns over the future of the RAF West Raynham site.

"I feel it is important to meet with the Minister following the Ministry of Defence announcement this week that it plans to sell RAF West Raynham to the highest bidder," says Norman Lamb.

"There is a huge opportunity here to provide affordable homes for local people and at the same time to develop a genuinely innovative housing scheme incorporating principles of sustainable communities, including renewable energy generation. My fear is that the announcement by the MoD undermines that vision.

"The site at West Raynham has been neglected for over a decade, and this week's announcement does little to reassure that the neglect won't continue."

"At next week's meeting, I hope to be able to get across the potential that there is at the site and gain the Minister's support.

The meeting will take place on 15 December at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
