Another High for Lib Dems in North Norfolk

Norman Lamb MP, Philip High and the Liberal Democrats are celebrating a superb by-election win in Holt ward of North Norfolk District Council. Philip High was elected as district councillor for Holt with over 50% of the votes cast, and with a turnout of over 50%. The by-election followed the resignation of independent councillor Ron Stone.

Philip High says:

"I am delighted to have been elected as District Councillor for Holt. My sincere thanks must go to all who have supported me. I look forward to fulfilling my role as a District Councillor, and I promise to do my very best for the town."

Election agent Cllr Simon Wright says:

"Voters in Holt have elected a fantastic councillor in Philip High. North Norfolk voters continue to reject negative Conservative campaigns in traditional Tory territory. We have now won the last 6 by-elections in North Norfolk, and all with over 50% of the total votes cast. This is a tribute to candidates of Philip's quality, and to a very committed team of Liberal Democrat volunteers in North Norfolk."

The result was:

Con 637 (40.7%)

Lab 41 (2.6%)

Lib Dem Philip High 885 (56.6%)

Turnout 54.1%

LD gain from Independent

This by-election takes the number of Liberal Democrat councillors on North Norfolk District Council to 30, out of a total of 48.
