Lamb Highlights Contradictions Faced by Local Health Services

2.27.37pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 19th Oct 2006

Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk, has used the Freedom of Information Act to release papers which highlight the contradictions faced by local health services. Referring to a released letter dated 3 May 2006 from the Chairman of the Strategic Health Authority to the Chairman of the North Norfolk Primary Care Trust, Mr Lamb said:

"This letter highlights the impossible position that local health services face. On the one hand, they are congratulated for good work against targets, but on the other hand they are effectively being told that they must cut back on this work."

"I have heard that the Strategic Health Authority would like to see wholesale closures of cottage hospitals across north Norfolk."

"We must do everything to resist such savage attacks on our local services."
