RISE OF SUPERBUGS IN COMMUNITY MISSED BY GOVERNMENT - LAMB

4.59.25pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 16th Oct 2007

Commenting on the Pulse magazine report which says that MRSA has moved into the community and that surveillance is essential to battle the 'unseen enemy', Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said: "This significant and deadly trend in hospital acquired infections is in danger of being missed."

"We have already seen how widespread infection rates are in care homes. The Government has done nothing to tackle the rise of superbugs in the community, meaning they can make their way back onto the wards when people are admitted to hospital."

"We've had years of ineffective tinkering and complacency around the problem of superbugs like MRSA and C Difficile. We now need tough action on all fronts."
