HEALTHCARE COMMISSION REPORT DAMNING INDICTMENT OF GOVERNMENT - LAMB

5.07.22pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 4th Dec 2007

Commenting on today's report from the Healthcare Commission into the state of healthcare in England and Wales, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said: "As an NHS report card, the conclusion is could and must do a lot better."

"It is a damning indictment that 10 years into a Labour government, health inequalities are still shockingly wide. This basic lack of fairness is underpinning the escalating problems in public health, such as obesity."

"Labour has spent a lot of money on the NHS, but we are not seeing the kind of improvement we would expect. Access to services is patchy and safety is still not a priority."
