MORE ACCOUNTABILITY NEEDED ON PCT DRUGS SPENDING - LAMB

10.06.38am GMT Thu 17th Jan 2008

Commenting on the Public Accounts Committee report into NHS spending on prescription drugs, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said:

"Waste has become endemic in an NHS run by a Government incapable of loosening its hold over local health services.

"Primary care Trusts are not accountable to anyone, meaning that there are no checks on whether the money spent on drugs gets the most for patient care.

"Ministers must work hard to ensure taxpayers get better value for their NHS money."
