GOVERNMENT TRUMPETING OF SUPERBUG RATES NOT CREDIBLE - LAMB

11.17.22am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 31st Jan 2008

Commenting on Alan Johnson's statement on Health Protection Agency statistics showing a reduction in MRSA and C. difficile rates, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said: "The Government refused to take responsibility for years of climbing infection rates, yet they are now taking credit for a reduction.

"This is simply not credible. Most of the measures they have trumpeted will have had no effect yet on superbug rates.

"Recent successes are down to the hard work of NHS staff, who are up against enormous pressure to hit targets while keeping their wards infection-free."
