GOVERNMENT NOT DELIVERING ON ONE-TO-ONE MIDWIFE CARE - LAMB

Commenting on today's [Friday] King's Fund report on maternity services, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said: "The Government is simply not delivering on its promise of one-to-one midwife care.

"Midwives need to be focused on caring for expectant mothers, rather than being distracted by ever more red tape and undertaking general tasks unrelated to looking after pregnant women.

"It is difficult to guarantee consistently high standards of care and patient safety if midwives are being pulled in a multitude of different directions.

"NHS Trusts must see maternity care as a priority and ensure that money destined for expectant mums doesn't get diverted elsewhere."
