Norman Lamb Launches Inquest into Unregulated Tanning Studios

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 8th Apr 2008

Norman Lamb has challenged the Department of Health regarding the abundance of tanning studios in the UK that do not meet EU Health and Safety Requirements. Having met with representatives from Consol Suncenter, Norman outlaid his concerns, "It does seem to me to be extraordinary that there are very many tanning studios in operation across the UK which fail to meet the EU minimum requirement".

Preliminary investigations suggest that a vast number of the UK's tanning studios fail to limit their tubes to a total output of 0.3 w/m2. "The EU minimum requirements are essential in safeguarding UK consumers, and I want to know what action, if any, the government proposes to take to protect these consumers".
