Norman Lamb MP Celebrates Victory for GP Dispensaries

12.00.00am GMT Wed 17th Dec 2008

North Norfolk MP, Norman Lamb has praised all those who joined his campaign to save local GP dispensaries. The Government recently announced that it was dropping controversial plans to restrict GP surgeries from dispensing prescription medication in the wake of stiff opposition from Ministers and the public.

Norman Lamb MP, who received over 700 letters regarding the issue, hailed the Government's decision, "This appears to be a substantial breakthrough for those who feel strongly about retaining a much-valued service in rural areas. It is obviously very good news. Common sense has prevailed. I am quite surprised that this early announcement has been made - I think it shows that there is overwhelming opposition to the plans."

Mr Lamb also went on to praise his constituents in North Norfolk who campaigned hard to prevent this proposal from being pushed through, "Local people in North Norfolk have had their voice heard in Westminster, and this represents a significant victory for rural life."

Further announcements regarding the government's Pharmacy White Paper will be made in the New Year.
