End the loophole allowing second home owners to avoid paying council tax

Local Liberal Democrats are demanding an end to a tax loophole which allows second home owners to avoid paying any council tax.

All second home owners have to do is make their property ‘available to let’ for 140 days per year to qualify as a business. Many then receive 100% tax relief on their property.

Whilst Norfolk County Council is proposing drastic cuts to local services, the county is losing millions due to this loophole - £1.8 million in North Norfolk alone.

Meanwhile, hard pressed families are having to pay extra council tax to fund vital local services such as care for elderly people and support for vulnerable children.

Do you share our view that this is totally unfair? If so, please sign our petition below calling on the Chancellor to end this outrageous tax loophole in the Budget this autumn.
